All things in life can be thought to interact with our bodies as empowerment or extraction algorithms.
Everything in life can be plotted on a spectrum which moves you towards your higher self or lower self. Extraction pulls down, empowerment pushes up.
From the weakest extraction algorithms like a piece of candy to the weakest empowerment algorithm like a healthy snack.
The goal of evolution from the beginning of time has been to align the natural world what us (the host) engages with in our environment, with what empowers survival capabilities and enables reproduction.
Put another way, natural life optimized our brains so its engagement algorithm matched our empowerment algorithm. We get dopamine for hunting, finding new berry bushes, helping others, and reproducing.
This worked well until the rate at which we started to manipulate our environment increased above the rate our bodies adapted themselves to the environment.
The advent of technology allowed individuals to create engagement algorithms that gave them more power over other individuals. Understanding the weakness of someone’s engagement algorithm, and exploiting it for personal gain.
At first this was nothing special. No one got angry at the candy maker for providing a service to people who wanted candy. In fact, it was not recognized that this was even a threat to health.
Yet as we exponentially build new technology, we also exponentially increase the capability for empowerment and for destruction.
As technology upgrades have grown at faster and faster rates our ability to update our culture and government system to deal with these destructive algorithms people profit off of is challenged.
Drugs created centuries ago have given us more than enough time to pass laws doing our best to keep them out of society.
Cocaine, homeine, and Meth to name a few. (Naturally capitalism found a way to push these things under the disguise of health, and profit off of it via the pharmaceutical industry)
Tobacco itself was seen as an empowerment algorithm for a long time, it wasn’t until medicine had enough time to track the resulting health of individuals using cigarettes that we had a concrete correlation of lung disease, cancer, etc.
Sadly this took longer than it should have because of unenlightened people choosing the short term gain of monetary boosts over the health of others.
This led to misinformation about the true health risks of cigarettes, delaying the truth, and the cultural update of negative status from their use.
Alcohol just went through this reckoning in the past decade. Unveiling all the health claims to a drink before bed as cherry picked data.
Today we are waking up to the fact that engagement algorithms attack our primitive mind and hurt our health. Yet media CAN be used for good, and we think healthy alternatives is the final step in crushing the engagement demon’s throat from continuing to polarize humanity.
The empowerment algorithm turns the collective higher mind.
